Revieuwed by Rik Rösken During the world championschips in Vancouver was there not only time for traning and performance, but also for a learning experience. Five scientific presentations where given during the championschips and three where recorded for the scientific lecture DVD. “Dynamic Cardio vascular Responses during breath-hold” by Dr. Andrew Blaber, Ph.D. The cardiovasculair effects are the main focus of this presention. There is discussion about bloodvolume changes and adaptations of the body on hypoxia and carbon dioxide build-up. “Some issues in breath-hold diving physiology” by John R. Fitz-Clarke, M.D., Ph.D. During this presentation, a computer model is used to dive deeper in the fysiology of deep diving. Intresting results are presented and thoughts presented on the current state of diving and breath-hold diving techniques. “Taravana” by Michael Lepawsky, BA. MD.CCFP (C), FPFC, DMO. Decompression Ilness or DCI with freediving stays a difficult subject. In this presentation, the historic background of DCI with breath-hold divers is raised and the effects of the illness in general. However all the lectures are recorded in a static way and the discussions have been ommited, it have been nevertheless a very valuable service of the organisation. It is quite intresting for those divers who would like to have a deeper look. The three lectures take about one and an half hour and can be bought at http://www.deeperblue.net and http://www.aidaworlds2004.com |
