Revieuw by: Rik Rösken In the summer of 2004 the team of Performance Freediving went to the Grand Cayman islands to challenge the world records. Team members Mandy-Rae Cruickshank and Martin Stepanek would take there chance for the women's Constant Weight World Record and men Free Immersion World Record. Dr. George Lopez, also a member of the team, goes for the United States Free Immersion records, while Kirk Krack is invaluable as their mentor and coach. The Cayman 2004 DVD starts with the group landing on the islands and follows them trough their four week routine that leads up to the record attempt. We see them in the pool training, photo shoot, a training sessions, and Mandy's enthusiasm carries the whole show to the finals. The DVD displays a easy going record attempt, and as such is a quite neat way how to present the team. Overall there is nothing wrong which such a video, it is great for commerce, and a valuable tool to get sponsorship. The DVD have been edited afterwards of footage taken during the records attempts, and that is quite visible. When following the events trough the journals, we read about the many problems, especially physical hardship, that the group has gone trough. If you wouldn't know it, it would not have been noted during the DVD. The only hard evidence that you might find are the dives of Dr. George Lopez, which depth decreased during the training weeks. From this view, thirty dollars might be a bit much for a 30 minute commercial. The editor, Goh Iromoto, was taken with the 2005 attempts and hopefully this has caused a better production. Links
