Comme un Dauphin

Jacques Mayol, L'homme du Grand Blue

(1990) Comme un Dauphin

By Rik Rösken

The documentary of 1990 seems quite much as a short documentarie on Jacques Mayol's book Homo Delphinus, The dolphin within Man. We will find Jacques Mayol travel around the world in this French documentary together with his cameraman Roger Marineau. They bring us to the Turks and Caicos Islands, Bretange, Florida, Thailand and in the end at a boat before the shores of Monte Cristo, where he would perform his 105 meter record dive.

The movie, published in SECAM, takes about 52 minutes to see and starts with a dolfinarium. One of the many places where Jacques Mayol discovered breath-hold diving. During a dolphin show, we see what the relation is like between this diver and the underwater mammals. Later on, in a different sanctuary, we will see how a dolphin enjoys classic music and see how Angela Bandini interacts with these gracious animals.

All together, the finding of this rare movie is something that absolutely is worth the price for the fans of Jacques Mayol.
