VHS Revieuw:

Yasemin Dalkilic, The World's Deepest Woman

Revieuwed by Rik Rösken

The documentary, produced by Frontier Productions, captures the events in July 2000, when Yasemin attempts to set a new world record in the disciplines as defined by FREE as limited variable ballast (resembling AIDA's variable weight) and unlimited variable ballast (AIDA's no limits).

In ten days, Yasemin should surpass in limited variable ballast the depth of 95 meters and 113 meters in the discipline of unlimited variable ballast. Would she be able to reach it the depth within that time?

The program goes into details what comes around to such an attempt and does not only presents the depth training, but also shows her capebilities in the swimmingpool and discusses various subjects as the diving fysiology.

Different from most other documentaries, is that there is also time spend to explain the rescue techniques and demonstrates how rescues are performed and what difficulties come with it to organise it appropirate. It is not just the freediver, but also the team that gets attention. Altough people who are not familiar with diving terms, could be overwhelmed by the technical descriptions and explanations, it is a real treat for those people who know more of breath-hold diving and technical diving that things are explained rightfully compared to other cases. Another thing that have been presented is that both dives where live broadcasted and thus needed additional technical solutions.

Overall, with the correct explanation, the video certainly rivals other documentaries presented at National Geographic and is an inspiring thought for film makers how to deal with the topic of competitive breath-hold diving.
