Oceanmen: Challenge in the Deep (Television documentary) By Rik Rösken A television documentary was also prepared during the time the Imax movie was recorded
The television documentary with cinematic qualities goes deeper on the rivalry between
Umberto Pelizari and Fransisco "Pipin" Ferreras. It all started with the 163 attempt of the Cuban Pipin Fererras in 2001. The whole
exciting moments are carefully presented, which lead to a strong climax. And than the
question, what had lead to the attempt? The movie goes a couple of months back in time
and introduces the Italian Umberto Pellizari, who brought the No-Limits record at
150 meter. The movie shows the development between the two and shows how one diver reacts to
the record breaking dive of the other. We see how Fransisco Ferreras trains and we
follow Umberto Pellizari when he visits the Ama's of Japan and the Sholin monks in
China. The cinematic style of filming, intertwined with both segments and music of the
Imax movie does turn this into a fascinating documentary. It is one of the few
documentaries who gives a more accurate view of the sport and the philosophical
thoughts behind it. It also offers an insight what it needs to organize a record. This is one of the documentaries you can't miss! Since last summer a Japanese DVD release have been spotted on the market.
The DVD depicts the 2001 documentary version, made by Haifish Entertainment
and H5B5. The documentary, recorded in Dolby Suround and widescreen format is also available
for the DVD zone 2. Features on the DVD are a Japanese main menu, scene selection, documentary trailer
and the option to set the Japanese subtitles on or off. See Also:
