By Rik Rösken Freediving is a word that is used to describe the technique to dive on a single breath. A technique that has surpased time for many ages and today can be found in several competitive sports and aquatice leisure activities. Freediving as a sport has gathered its name with the competitive variant where records and competitions are based one time, distance and depth. When considering freediving anologous to breath-hold diving and activities, sports as underwater hockey, synchronized swimming, tir-sur-cible, underwater rugby and underwater hunting. Beside the competitive sport, the technique is also used as a way to sustain life and income. Finally, it should be noted that it is also a great technique to discover the underwater world on your own power and to learn it as a new way of relaxation technique. Freediving is comming more popular these days. Partially it is a fun thing to do beside the more established SCUBA diving, otherwise it is a intersting way to learn your self better on a way that is unequalled by any other sport. While how innocent the sport would look on the first sight, it is, just like SCUBA diving, also a sport where you need to know some knowledge to do it safely. These site is originally written for the Dutch speaking countries, however offers an english section for those intrested. It tries to describe freediving (or breath-hold diving) in its different existing forms and also give features fysiology, revieuws of competitions and materials. The site should not be seen as a learning tool, there are courses for that.
