2nd Recreational Freedive Meet (2004)

By Rik Rösken

The Recreational Freedive Meet was this year held for the second time, which was held on the third Saturday of January. This day, it was not just freediving, but much more breath-hold diving in its broadest form.

At this day, I was active as a volunteer. Naturally, I have seen much of the activities from the pool side, however for an objective vieuw of the events, I hope that visitors of the Meet would like to tell there experiences. Any addition shall be added to this page at a later date.

Anyway, the visitor could discover a lot different aspects of breath-hold diving; synchronized swimming, board-diving, monofinswimming, waterwingswimming and subwaterdance. Besides that, a freedive introduction was given for those who never had the chance to discover breath-hold diving. Those visitors who where specialized in just one of the disciplines took their chance and tried some of the other disciplines. Synchronized swimmers who tried subwaterdance, monofinswimmers who tried the waterwing, much was learned from each other.

Besides presentations of information posters about dolphins and the humanoid physiology, there was also the possibility to learn different organizations, find general information on breath-hold diving and the buy material for any of the disciplines.

At the end of the day, the fantastic atmosphere of the swimmingpool was changed for the finals at the pancake ship. Many contacts have emerged of this event and I think that most of the vistors will agree that this is something to be organized again. Information about the next recreational freedive meet shall probably be found on this site.
